News Digital Media increases stake in SportingPulse

News Digital Media has increased its stake in Sporting Pulse, Australia's largest grassroots sporting network, to 51%.
Making the announcement, News Digital Media Chief Operating Officer Stuart Spiteri, said that the increased investment demonstrated News Digital Media's belief in SportingPulse and underlined News Limited's support for Australian sport at all levels.
Spiteri explained "SportingPulse is now the pre-eminent destination for grassroots sports. It has developed strong relationships with peak sporting bodies both nationally and internationally, and plays an important role in the Australian sporting community.
"Since our initial investment almost three years ago, SportingPulse has transformed from being an IT software provider to become a marketing solutions company by opening up its network to commercial partners.
"Each month it engages millions of everyday Australians, providing a unique and powerful platform for advertising and other commercial initiatives. We are delighted to increase our investment and look forward to even greater future success."
Established in 1999 by Chief Executive Nick Maywald, the SportingPulse network provides more than 25 sports the tools and software to manage local sporting leagues and competitions.
The network, which attracts up to three million visitors a month, has business relationships with many of Australia's national sport governing bodies including the Australian Football League, Football Federation Australia, Australian Rugby League, Basketball Australia, Touch Football Australia, Hockey Australia and Bowls Australia.
News Digital Media initially acquired a significant minority stake of the company in February 2009.
Speaking of increased investment, Maywald stated "I am thrilled that News Digital Media is taking a larger stake in the business. Its support will help us provide a better service to our users, sporting partners and advertisers on our network, on mobile and other convergent devices, and video through our YouTube partnership."
